Machine Health Monitoring involves the following:

• Understanding the loading on a machine, both the design rating and the actual running load. This can prevent breakdowns from improper operation, and ensure the machine is running in it’s “sweet spot”
• Looking at all inputs and outputs to a machine (both process and auxiliary-e.g. lubricating oil) to detect critical defects or failures as quickly as possible before they propagate downstream
• Reviewing historical failures to look for patterns and predict future breakdowns in order to monitor for and prevent them
